Several online articles examining the Legends of the Superheroes TV special have often pointed to the unfortunate, insensitive racial stereotyping of the character. I have already reviewed part 1- Legends of the Superheroes: The Challenge.I said it then and I say it again for this episode. Ghetto Man demonstrates neither powers nor crime fighting skills, though he seems to have some experience as a stand up comedian. This is the second part of the two episode series of TV specials which aired in 1979 titled Legends of the Superheroes. They aired days apart on NBC in 1979. Ghetto Man is a stand up comedian, often focused on the black experience in comparison to the experience of the predominantly white members of the Justice League.Īpparently, Ghetto Man has the ability to fly or levitate under his own power, as seen at the end of his comedy routine. He appears as a guest who gives a stand-up routine for the Justice League of America, including many jokes about race, comparing the world of the Justice League with his own life experience. No background has been provided for Ghetto Man. No origin has been provided for Ghetto Man.
